Tommy Capone and Sam Hurster Named NEILA Academic All-Region

Providence, R.I. -  Brown senior face-off specialist Tommy Capone (Watertown, NY) and senior attackman Sam Hurster (St. Louis, MO) have been named  to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Academic All-Region Team.


Members of this team are all graduating seniors who have excelled both in the classroom and on the playing field.

In order to be selected for this team, student-athletes must be in their final year of eligibility, have posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, and be a significant enough contributor on the field that they were nominated for conference or regional recognition.

 A history and political Science concentrator, Capone developed into one of the top face-off men in the Ivy League.  He led the Brown team with 67 ground balls and captured 113-of-211 (.536) face-offs. Capone scored his first collegiate goal in Brown's win over Dartmouth.

Hurster is an Economics concentrator who scored 84 career goals for the Bears. His 26 goals were second on this year's team, while his 31 goals as a sophomore ranked third in the Ivy League.  In 2014, he netted a career high six goals in wins over Hartford and Marist, helping the Bears post an 8-6 overall record.

Twenty-three student-athletes from 10 schools in Division 1 were selected as Academic All-Region
