Providence, R.I. – Senior attackman Sam Hurster exploded for career high six goals and freshman Dylan Molloy (Setauket, NY) added four goals to lead Brown to a 12-7 win over Hartford at chilly Stevenson Field Wednesday afternoon.
Brown improves to 2-1 with the win, while Hartford falls to 2-2 overall.
Hurster wouldn't mind playing against Hartford every week. The St. Louis, Missouri native scored five goals against the Hawks a year ago.
Hurster's six goals came on eight shots, while Molloy scored his four goals on just five shots. Sophomore Kylor Bellistri (Potomac, MD) added two goals for the Bears.
The Bears also had a yeoman's performance from sophomore goalie Jack Kelly (West Islip, NY), who stymied the Hawks time-after-time by making 16 saves in goal.
The Hawks were led by Kevin O'Shea, who netted two goals on 10 shots at the Bears' goal. Hartford goalie Frank Piechota came up with six saves in net for the Hawks.
The determined Bears were a perfect 19-19 in clears, but were out-shot by the Hawks by a 45-27 margin. Both teams totaled 20 ground balls.
The Bears never trailed in the game and took the lead for good, 4-3, on an unassisted goal by Molloy with 3:17 left in the second quarter.
Hurster scored three of the game's next four goals in the third quarter to lift the Bears to a 7-4 lead with 2:37 remaining in the quarter.
The two teams exchanged goals late in the quarter, Greg Reynolds scoring for Hartford and Molloy tallying for the Bears, to keep Brown's lead at three goals, 8-5, heading into the fourth quarter.
Molloy and Hurster broke the game open with consecutive goals in the final quarter to put the game out of reach, 10-5 with 12:13 left in the game.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, March 8, facing Hobart in a game played at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY. Face-off is scheduled for 4pm.
