Providence, R.I. - Brown's men's lacrosse team will look to capture the Ocean State Cup when they take on Bryant on Tuesday, April 23, in Smithfield, R.I. The Bears have already defeated Providence College, and need a win over the Bulldogs tonight to clinch the Ocean State Cup Championship that rewards the overall Division I champion among Rhode Island's three Division I lacrosse schools. The Records: Brown (6-6, 1-4 Ivy) dropped a 13-7 decision to #7 Cornell on Saturday. Senior Alex Jones led the Bears with three goals against the Big Red. Clay Del Prince Named Finalist For 2013 Senior CLASS Award: Brown senior defenseman Clay Del Prince (Hamburg, NY) is one of 10 NCAA Division I lacrosse student-athletes, who excel both on and off the field, to be selected as finalists for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate men's lacrosse. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. A close defenseman, he leads the Bears with 24 caused turnovers. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website or on the Senior CLASS Award Facebook fan page through May 13. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner.
Head Coach Lars Tiffany: Lars Tiffany '90, a two-time Brown lacrosse captain, returned to his alma mater as head men's lacrosse coach in the summer of 2006, and has returned the program to national prominence with Ivy League titles in 2008 and 2010, and an NCAA Championship berth in 2009. Tiffany was named the New England Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2009 while leading his team to the number one ranking in New England each year.
