New Haven, Conn. - #15 Yale rallied with four late fourth quarter goals to earn an 11-8 come-from-behind win over Brown in an Ivy League game at Reece Stadium. The Bulldogs (7-3, 3-2 Ivy) earned their fourth straight win, while Brown dropped its fourth consecutive game to fall to 5-5 overall, 1-3 in the Ivy League.
Yale jumped out to 3-0 lead with two goals in the first quarter and the opening goal of the second quarter. Back-to-back goals by Brown freshman Henry Blynn (Villanova, PA) and sophomore Nick Piroli (Black River, NY) with 6:15 left in half cut the Bulldogs lead to 3-2.
The two teams exchanged goals for the remainder of the half, with Kirby Zdrill and Conrad Oberbeck scoring for Yale, and freshman Brendan Caputo (Westbury, NY) scoring for the Bears as the Bears trailed, 5-3, at intermission.
Brown was successful on its opening possession of the second half when senior Johnny DePeters scored to cut the Bulldogs' lead to 5-4.
Consecutive goals by Yale extended its lead to 7-4 with 6:34 left in the quarter, but the Bears quickly answered with goals by junior Sam Hurster (St. Louis, MO) and Blynn to draw Brown to within a goal, 7-6, after three quarters.
Bears' All-Ivy junior goalie Will Round (Mt. Lebanon, PA) made two big saves to thwart the Yale attack early in the fourth quarter and enabled the Bears to get back in the game.
Three straight Yale face-off wins led to three unanswered goals by the Elis, one by Brandon Mangan and two by Zdrill to pull ahead by a 10-8 advantage with just under four minutes remaining. An empty net goal with under a minute to play accounted for the final margin of victory for the Bulldogs.
Yale out-shot the Bears by a 41-33 margin. Round made eight saves in the Brown goal, while Eric Natale registered nine saves for the Bulldogs.
The Bears are back in action again on Tuesday, April 16, traveling across tow to play the Providence College Friars. Face-off is scheduled for 7 pm.
