  • Spring Academic All-Ivy Announced
    June 18, 2013
    The Ivy League released its list of student-athletes selected for 2013 spring Academic All-Ivy, with 10 Brown student-athletes earning recognition. The five men and five women were starters or key reserves on an officially recognized varsity team with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.
  • Del Prince and Ferguson Named to USILA Scholar All-America Team

    Brown seniors Clay Del Prince (Hamburg, NY) and Roger Ferguson (Washington, DC) have been named Scholar All-Americans by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA). Both Del Prince and Ferguson contributed to the success of the Brown team not only this season, helping lead the team to an 8-6 record, but throughout their careers. They are among 12 Ivy Leaguers to earn recognition as Scholar All-Americans.
  • Brown Laxers Earn All-New England Athletic and Academic Honors

    Three Brown lacrosse players were named to the All-New England Team, while four Brown laxers were named NEILA Senior Scholar-Athletes. Senior long stick middy Roger Ferguson (Washington, DC), senior defenseman Sam Ford (Reisterstown, MD) and senior defenseman Clay Del Prince (Hamburg, NY) earned All-New England honors, while Ferguson, Ford, Del Prince and senior George Sherman (Greenwich, CT) earned Scholar-Athlete recognition.
  • Brown Athletics Announces 2013 Award Winners at Fifth Annual Senior Luncheon

    The Fifth Annual Brown Athletics Senior Celebration and Awards Luncheon was held at Andrews Dining Hall on Monday, May 20, 2013. Over 275 student-athletes, coaches, staff and distinguished guests were in attendance at the banquet to celebrate another year of success in competition, in the classroom and in the community. President Christina Paxson and Director of Athletics Jack Hayes each took the opportunity to address the room and acknowledge the accomplishments and contributions of the class of 2013.
  • Three Brown Student-Athletes Named to Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District I At Large Team
    May 20, 2013
    Three Brown student-athletes - two seniors and one junior - have been selected to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large team. On the men’s side, senior men’s lacrosse player Clay Del Prince (Hamburg, NY) and senior fencer Kelly McGuire (Park City, UT) earned First Team honors, while junior gymnast Michelle Shnayder (Lincolnshire, IL) was a First Team honoree on the Women’s At-Large team. All three will now advance to the Academic All-America national ballot.

    Brown seniors Roger Ferguson (Washington, DC), Sam Ford (Reisterstown, MD) and Alex Jones (Annapolis, MD) have been named to the 2013 All-Ivy Men’s Lacrosse team, earning honorable mention honors. The trio helped the Bears to an 8-6 record in 2013.
  • Brendan Caputo '16 Named Ivy League Rookie of the Week

    Brown freshman midfielder Brendan Caputo (Westbury, N.Y.) lifted the men's lacrosse team to two big wins last week, scoring the game-winner in games against both Bryant and Dartmouth. Caputo joins fellow Brown freshmen Henry Blynn, Jack Kelly and Kylor Bellistri, who were all named Ivy League Rookie of the Week in 2013.
  • Freshman Brendan Caputo’s OT Goal Lifts Brown Laxers Over Dartmouth, 8-7

    Freshman attackman Brendan Caputo (Westbury, NY) scored his third goal of the game with 1:19 left in the third overtime period to lift the Brown men’s lacrosse team to an 8-7 Ivy League win over Dartmouth in the final regular season game for both teams. Brown finished the season by winning three of its last four games, posting an 8-6 overall record, 2-4 in the Ivy League, while Dartmouth falls to 3-11 overall, 1-5 in Ivy play.

    Nearly 150 alumni, parents, friends and student-athletes gathered at the Providence Biltmore Hotel to dedicate the Rothman Head Coaching Chair for Men’s Lacrosse on Friday, April 19. Honored were primary benefactor of the endowed chair Thomas E. Rothman ’76, P’11 ’13and fellow lacrosse alumni donors Kenneth Fitzsimmons, Jr. ’68, P’13; John Keogh ’86; and Zachary Schreiber ’95.
  • Brendan Caputo’s Late Goal Lifts Brown Over Bryant, 8-7, For Ocean State Cup

    Freshman Brendan Caputo (Westbury, NY) scored on a pass from senior Alex Jones (Annapolis, MD) with 37 seconds remaining to lift Brown to an 8-7 non-league win over Bryant to capture the Ocean State Cup for the first time since 2010. Brown, who had previously beaten Providence College in an Ocean State Cup game, improves its record to 7-6 overall, while Bryant falls to 5-10 overall.
  • Ocean State Cup On The Line As Brown Men’s Lacrosse Visits Bryant

    Brown’s men’s lacrosse team will look to capture the Ocean State Cup when they take on Bryant on Tuesday, April 23, in Smithfield, R.I. The Bears have already defeated Providence College, and need a win over the Bulldogs tonight to clinch the Ocean State Cup Championship that rewards the overall Division I champion among Rhode Island’s three Division I lacrosse schools. Brown fans can listen to the game on brownbears.com with Mike Rubin calling the play and Mike Mancuso providing the analysis.
  • Bears Fall To #7 Cornell, 13-7

    On a day that Cornell’s Rob Pannell became the Ivy League’s all-time leading scorer, the Big Red led from start to finish to defeat Brown, 13-7, and claim the outright Ivy League Championship. Brown falls to 6-6 overall, 1-4 Ivy, while Cornell extends its record to 11-2 overall, 5-0 in Ivy play. Brown honored its eight seniors - Obafemi Alese (Far Rockaway, NY), Clay Del Prince (Hamburg, NY), Johnny DePeters (Woodbury, CT), Roger Ferguson (Washington, DC), Sam Ford (Reisterstown, MD), Alex Jones (Annapolis, MD), Shane McHugh (Delray Beach, FL), and George Sherman (Greenwich, CT) - in pre-game ceremonies.

  • Brown Laxers Take On Providence In Ocean State Cup Matchup

    Brown’s men’s lacrosse team will travel across the City of Providence to take on Providence College on Tuesday, April 16th, at Lennon Family Field in the 18th meeting between the two Renaissance City teams. The Bears and Friars will be competing for the Ocean State Cup, along with Bryant University, with the overall winner of the series among Rhode Island’s Division I lacrosse teams being awarded the trophy.
  • Brown Holds On For 7-6 Win Over Providence

    Bears’ sophomore attackman Nick Piroli (Black River, NY) scored with 8:07 remaining to break a 6-6 tie, and junior goalie Will Round (Mt. Lebanon, PA) made four saves down the stretch, to lead Brown to a 7-6 win over Providence in an Ocean State Cup match-up at Lennon Family Field on the PC campus.

    #15 Yale rallied with four late fourth quarter goals to earn an 11-8 come-from-behind win over Brown in an Ivy League game at Reece Stadium. The Bulldogs (7-3, 3-2 Ivy) earned their fourth straight win, while Brown dropped its fourth consecutive game to fall to 5-5 overall, 1-3 in the Ivy League.

    Penn goalie Brian Feeney made 15 saves, several from point-blank range, to lead the Quakers to a 10-3 Ivy League win over Brown, sending the Bears to their third straight loss. Sophomore Nick Piroli, freshman Henry Blynn and junior Sam Hurster each scored goals for teh Bears. Brown falls to 5-4 overall, 1-2 in the Ivy League, while Penn advances to 6-3 overall, 2-2 in Ivy play.

    Ten NCAA® lacrosse student-athletes, who excel both on and off the field, were selected as finalists for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate men’s lacrosse, including Brown University senior defenseman Clay Del Prince (Hamburg, NY). To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.     Seventh-ranked North Carolina utilized a 7-4 third quarter surge to earn an 18-12 win over 19th-ranked Brown at Fetzer Field before a national television audience on ESPNU. The Tar Heels extend their record to 6-2 for the season, while Brown had its five game winning streak stopped, falling to 5-2 overall. Bears’ freshman attackman Henry Blynn (Villanova, PA), a two-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week, led the Bears with five goals against the Tar Heels.

The match-up between the Bears and Tar Heels will be televised live on ESPNU, starting at 6 pm, with Joe Beninati calling the play and Quint Kessenich and Paul Carcaterra providing the analysis.
  • Brown Wins Fifth Straight, Topples High Point, 21-8
    March 24, 2013
    The Brown men’s lacrosse team rolled to its fifth straight win behind freshman Henry Blynn’s (Villanova, PA) career high five goals, earning a 21-8 win over High Point at rainy Vert Stadium Sunday afternoon. The victory gives the Bears a 5-1 overall record and some momentum heading into Wednesday’s game against North Carolina. High Point falls to 2-7 with the loss. The 21 goals are the most scored by a Brown team since a 21-9 victory over Providence in 1999.
  • Freshman Jack Kelly Named Ivy League Rookie of the Week

    Brown freshman goalkeeper Jack Kelly (West Islip, N.Y.) was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for his play in the Bears’ 11-9 win over Harvard Saturday evening in the Ivy opener for both teams. It’s the third straight week that a Brown freshman has won at least a share of Ivy Rookie of the Week honors, and Kelly is the third different Brown recipient.
