When making a soup, the chopping leads to tossing the vegetables and legumes and anything else you want in with the stock and letting it all simmer for a while. How hearty is it: thin or thick? Does it need some seasoning? Does it have it a kick? Phil arrived on campus as a freshman with talent but in need of a thickening agent. He has checked that off the list two years later. Phil's frame is now supporting a much more stout and stronger man. He earned a starting spot in 2012 at close defense, garnering valuable experience and consistently proving he belonged. And there is a kicker in all this, as Phil has quietly become proficient at creating turnovers and being quite disruptive to his opponent. In the Harvard game alone last season, he had 7 caused turnovers. The physical maturation, the development into a solid team defenseman and the emerging confidence to reach out and challenge the ball carrier have all come together to concoct not just a simple side dish but instead a hearty, strong entree. In addition to being a starting defenseman, Phil has become a vital part of the Man Down unit…2012: Ranked11th in the nation in caused turnovers with 1.93 per game…Helped the Brown team rank 3rd in the nation with 9.47 caused turnovers per game…Started all 15 games and picked up 28 ground balls…Wrecked havoc with Harvard, causing seven turnovers…Scored a goal vs. Vermont…Picked-up four ground balls vs. Harvard and Providence…2011: Played in 11 games for the Bears…Registered a shot against Cornell…Picked up two ground balls and caused four turnovers…Secondary School Background: A graduate of the Brunswick School…Lettered in lacrosse (4), football (4) and basketball (3)…First Team All-new England…Played in the New England All-Star game…Team Defensive MVP his senior year…Made the Connecticut Super?
