Life of a woodsman can be very rewarding as he takes on challenges of the tallest order and fells them one at a time, earning the satisfaction of a job well done without much fanfare.  Dan has served as a defensive midfielder for our program the past two years, playing an integral role with the team defense while gaining little in terms of publicity except for leading the team with time served in the penalty box last season.  He is a trusted teammate who not only performs his own duties well with his lumberjack checks and sound comprehension of the slide schemes, but Dan can also direct others to get to the correct spots.  Dan has a keen sense for the game and he can quickly decipher an opponent's play which is a big reason why he has also been a mainstay on the Man Down unit since his freshman year.  His versatility allows him to take face-offs occasionally, providing a change-up for our opponent.  Dan is poised to take the next step, to one in which he expands his role into a more commanding presence with the ball in his stick and with the transition game…2012:  Saw action in all 15 games for the Bears…Picked-up five ground balls and registered three shots…Also caused four turnovers…2011: Played in 10 games for the Bears…Picked-up four ground balls, including two against St. Joseph’s…Secondary School Background: A graduate of Sayville High School where he lettered in lacrosse (4), soccer (3) and wrestling (3)…Two-time soccer captain and captain of lacrosse and wrestling teams as a senior…league Rookie of the Year in lacrosse…registered 183 career points…Team MVP as a senior…All-County as a sophomore and junior…All-American as a senior…Led Suffolk County and Long Island Championship team in scoring as a junior…Also two-time All-league in soccer and wrestling…Suffolk County Principal’s Scholar-Athlete Award recipient…National Honor Society member…Personal: The son of Scott and Kathleen Mellynchuk…Has an older sister, Erin, and an older brother, Scott…Enjoys video games, kayaking and swimming…Undecided on his concentration.
