Providence, Rhode Island – Brown opens its 2012 Ivy League Lacrosse season on Saturday, March 17, with a St. Patrick's Day match-up against Harvard at Harvard Stadium, starting at 7:00 p.m. The Bears are 2-2 overall and recently captured Ivy League Championships in 2008 and 2010. Harvard has posted a 2-3 record in 2012 and will also be opening its Ivy season.
Brown's Record: The Bears (2-2) earned an 11-3 win over St. Joseph's last Saturday behind sophomore Sam Hurster's three goals. The Bears have also posted a win over Quinnipiac (12-7), with losses to UMass (12-7) and Hartford (20-6).
The Crimson: Harvard (2-3) opened its season with wins over Vermont (11-4) and Holy Cross (14-9), but have dropped three straight games by a total of five goals, falling to Hofstra (7-6), Georgetown (11-10) and Duke (11-8). Senior Jeff Cohen has scored 18 goals, including five against Duke, to lead the Crimson.
The Brown-Harvard Series Record: Brown and Harvard have met 61 times with the Crimson holding a 31-30 series advantage. Harvard won last year's game, 11-7, at Meister-Kavan Field. Coach Lars Tiffany's squad had captured the previous three games over Harvard, including a 13-11 victory in 2010 in Cambridge.
Bear Facts: Bears' sophomore Will Round turned in a strong performance in goal against St. Joseph's, making 12 saves, while allowing just two goals…Senior attackman Parker Brown leads the Bears in scoring with 10 points (6 goals, 4 assists). Parker has registered 81 career points, with 47 career goals and 34 career assists… Senior Dan O'Brien came into his final season at Brown with three goals and an assist. He has already eclipsed his career totals with five goals and four assists in 2012…Nick Piroli is Brown's top freshman scorer with 7 points (5 goals, 2 assists)…Sophomore Sam Hurster is Brown's leading goal scorer with seven goals, 10th best in the Ivy League…Junior defenseman Sam Ford ranks second on the Brown squad with 16 ground balls…Sophomore Tommy Capone is the Bears' top face-off man, having won 25 of 42 (.595) face-offs. His 5.6 ground balls per game ranks second in the Ivy League…Sophomore defenseman Phil Pierce is Brown's leader with seven caused turnovers.
The Captains: Seniors Parker Brown and Rob Schlesinger are co-captains of the 2012 Brown lacrosse team. Parker Brown was the Bears' leading scorer in 2011 with 40 points (22 goals, 18 assists), while Schlesinger was an All-Ivy and All-New England selection.
