    Providence, RI – The Ivy League released its list of student-athletes selected for 2012 spring Academic All-Ivy, with 10 Brown student-athletes being recognized. The five females and five males were starters or key reserves on an officially recognized varsity team with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.
  • Sam Ford, Rob Schlesinger and Roger Ferguson Named To All-New England Lacrosse Team

    Brown junior Sam Ford (Reisterstown, MD), senior co-captain Rob Schlesinger (Medford, MA) and junior Roger Ferguson (Washington, DC) were named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association’s (NEILA) 2012 All-New England Men’s Lacrosse Team. Ford earned first team All-New England honors, while Schlesinger and Ferguson garnered second team All-New England accolades. In addition, senior Dan O’Brien (Kensington, MD) and senior co-captain Parker Brown (San Francisco, CA) were named NEILA 2012 Senior Scholar-Athletes.

    What seemed improbable three weeks ago became reality when Brown won four of its last five games and earned a berth in the Ivy League Playoffs. The Bears, seeded fourth, will battle top seeded and nationally ninth-ranked Princeton in the opening Ivy League semifinal on Friday, May 4, at 8:00 p.m., live on ESPN3 from Princeton’s Class of 1952 Stadium.
  • Seven Brown Laxers Earn All-Ivy Honors

    Seven members of the Brown University men’s lacrosse team have been named All-Ivy for the 2012 season by a vote of the seven Ivy League lacrosse coaches. Junior defenseman Sam Ford (Reisterstown, MD), sophomore attackman Sam Hurster (St. Louis, MO) and sophomore goalie Will Round (Mt. Lebanon, PA) earned second team All-Ivy honors, while senior attackman Parker Brown (San Francisco, CA), junior midfielder Rob Schlesinger (Medford, MA), junior long stick midfielder Roger Ferguson (Washington, DC) and junior defenseman Clay DelPrince (Hamburg, NY) were named honorable mention All-Ivy selections.
  • Brown Laxers Triumph Over Dartmouth, 10-8, To Gain Ivy League Playoff Berth

    Sophomore attackman Sam Hurster (St. Louis, MO) scored three goals to lead Brown to a 10-8 win over Dartmouth at Stevenson Field and a berth in next week’s Ivy League Playoffs. The Bears gained the fourth spot in the Ivy Playoffs by winning their final two league games and finishing with a 3-3 Ivy mark, 7-7 overall. The Big Green completed its season with a 4-9 overall record, 1-5 in the Ivy League.

The Bears now hold an 18-0 series advantage over the Friars. Hurster added an assist to go with his hat-trick, while senior Rob Schlesinger and junior Johnny DePeters netted two goals each for Brown.

    In a marathon four overtime game that played well into the night, Yale’s Deron Dempster scored an unassisted goal on a behind-the-back shot with 1:43 left in the fourth overtime period to lead the Bulldogs to an 11-10 Ivy League win over Brown Friday evening at Stevenson Field. Brown played four overtime periods for the fourth time in its 62-year men’s lacrosse history.

    Brown’s furious fourth quarter rally came up a goal short after a barrage of shots in the game’s final seconds as the Bears dropped a 9-8 decision to eighth-ranked Duke Tuesday afternoon at Koskinen Stedium. The Bears, now 3-4 on the season, outshot the Blue Devils (8-3) by a 15-4 margin in the fourth quarter, and 37-29 overall.

    Freshman Nick Piroli (Black River, NY) scored a career high four goals to lead eight different Brown goal scorers in the Bears’ 14-5 victory over Vermont Saturday afternoon at Virtue Field. The Bears evened their record at 3-3 on the season with the win, while the Catamounts fell to 1-7.

    Jeff Cohen scored his fifth goal with 2:15 left in overtime to rally Harvard to a 10-9 win over Brown at Harvard Stadium in the Ivy League opener for both teams. Brown freshman Nick Piroli (Black River, NY) sent the game into overtime with his third goal of the game, tying the score, 9-9, with 5:30 left in regulation.

    Brown opens its 2012 Ivy League Lacrosse season on Saturday, March 17, with a St. Patrick’s Day match-up against Harvard at Harvard Stadium, starting at 7:00 p.m. The Bears are 2-2 overall and recently captured Ivy League Championships in 2008 and 2010. Harvard has posted a 2-3 record in 2012 and will also be opening its Ivy season.
