Princeton, New Jersey - Princeton sophomore midfielder Tucker Shanley scored with 2:58 remaining in the fourth overtime period to lift the Tigers to a 5-4 Ivy League men's lacrosse win over Brown at the Class of 1952 Stadium. Junior Parker Brown and senior David Hawley netted two goals each to lead the Bears, who fall to 3-5 overall, 0-2 in the Ivy League. Princeton moves to 2-5 overall, 1-2 in Ivy play.
Neither team scored in the first three overtime periods with Bears' senior goalie Matt Chriss (Lutherville, MD) making four saves, one in the first overtime, two in the second four-minute extra period, and one in the third overtime, including a crucial stop with four seconds remaining.
After 12 minutes of scoreless overtime play, the Tigers gained possession in the fourth overtime period following a Brown turnover. After calling time-out, Shanley took a pass from Tom Schreiber and found the back of the net 1:04 into the fourth overtime period.
Junior attackman Parker Brown (San Francisco, CA) got the Bears on the scoreboard first with an extra man goal at 7:28 of the first quarter. Senior David Hawley (New Canaan, CT) scored less than two minutes later to lift the Bears to a 2-0 advantage.
A goal by Princeton's Chris McBride with 0.7 seconds remaining in the quarter cut Brown's lead to 2-1.
Goals by Princeton's Tom Schreiber and Tucker Shanley gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead at intermission. Princeton extended its lead to 4-2 on Jeff Froccaro's goal with 6:45 left in the third quarter.
Brown had been held scoreless for over 30 minutes before Hawley netted his second goal of the game at the 5:10 mark of the third quarter to get the Bears back in contention, 4-3.
Parker Brown scored the game's lone fourth quarter goal on an assist from Jeffrey Foote with just 7:21 remaining in regulation, to send the game into overtime, 4-4.
Chriss continued his brilliant play in net for the Bears, making 20 saves, including 16 in regulation, while facing 47 Princeton shots. Princeton goalkeeper Tyler Fiorito registered 10 saves in the Tigers' net.
Coach Lars Tiffany's team travels to Smithfield, Rhode Island on Tuesday, April 5, to battle intrastate rival Bryant College. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
