Providence, Rhode Island - 19th ranked Brown fell behind 5-0 after one quarter and was unable to recover with a fourth quarter challenge in a 14-11 Ivy League loss to 16th ranked Yale Saturday afternoon at Stevenson Field. The loss drops the Bears to 5-5 overall, 2-2 in Ivy play, while the Elis extended their record to 9-2, 3-2 in the Ivy League.
Matt Gibson and Matt Miller scored three goals each for the Elis, while Parker Brown led the Bears with three goals.
Yale built a 5-0 first quarter lead before sophomore Rob Schlesinger got Brown on the scoreboard with 13:11 left in the second quarter. Goals by Greg Mahoney and Miller put the Elis up by six goals, 7-1, with 11:30 remaining in the quarter.
Junior Andrew Feinberg and sophomore Parker Brown answered for the Bears, but Yale's Max Rodman scored to put the Elis up by 8-3.
The Bears were able to pull to within four goals when Feinberg scored late in the second quarter to cut Yale's lead to 8-4 at intermission.
Yale outscored the Bears 5-1 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach, 13-5.
Brown mounted a strong fourth quarter challenge, out-scoring the Elis by a 6-1 margin, but Yale held on for the victory. Junior David Hawley and Parker Brown scored two gaols each in the spurt, while senior Thomas Muldoon and junior Nick Laster added one goal each.
In addition to Parker Brown's three goals, Feinberg added two goals and two assists. Senior All-American Thomas Muldoon, a Lowe's Senior Class finalist, scored two goals for the Bears as did Hawley.
Brown goalie Matt Chriss registered nine saves in the Bears' net, while Yale goalie Jon Falcone made 14 saves for the Elis.
Brown's lacrosse team is back in action again at home on April 20 hosting cross-town rival Providence College. Game time Tuesday evening is 7:00 p.m.
