Brown University senior Hobey Baker candidate Yann Danis (Saint Jerome, QUE) was honored as the USCHO Defensive Player of the Week (12/2), after helping Brown to wins over Clarkson and St. Lawrence and a tie with Providence.
Danis, who earned ECAC Goalie of the Week in the first week of November, was recognized as the Player of the Week earlier this week. The All-America and Hobey Baker Candidate stopped 108 of 110 shots in three games, including a season-high 39 in a 1-1 tie with Providence, and all 38 he faced against St. Lawrence to earn his third shutout of the season and 11th of his career. He was named First Star against the Saints, and also earned First Star honors against Clarkson, stopping 31 of 32 shots. The win over Clarkson was Brown's first since 2002 and the second for Head Coach Roger Grillo in 15 meetings. After stopping 15 shots during the first two periods combined, Danis made 24 saves in the final 25 minutes, including 18 in the third period and six in the five minute overtime, earning Second Star honors against Providence. Danis has allowed just six goals, in eight games, on 242 shots (236 saves) for a stingy 0.74 GAA, and an impressive .975 save percentage, leading the country in both categories.
Brown is off to its best start since the 1975-76 season with a 6-1-1 record, is undefeated in its last six games (5-0-1). The Bears will look to continue their fast start this weekend on the road, when they face Cornell and Colgate in a pair of ECAC games before a three-week break.
