Dec. 3, 2001
For the second time this season, a Brown University men's ice hockey player was honored with a weekly ECAC award. Junior Assistant Captain, Tye Korbl (Goffstown, NH) was named the ECAC Player of the Week after a one-assist, one-goal outing in leading Brown to a 3-2 come-from-behind overtime victory over St. Lawrence.
Korbl, who earned Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career, scored the game-winning goal with just eight seconds left in overtime. He took the goalie one-on-one and tallied the second game-winning goal of his career, the first being in last season's 5-3 victory over Princeton.
The overtime win marks the first time since 1999 that Brown won an overtime game, ironically 3-2 over St. Lawrence, and also marks the first victory over the Saints since a 6-0 shutout in 2000.
Korbl has registered three goals and three assists this season for the Bears, who continue action on Saturday, December 8, when they host Harvard in a 7:00 p.m. contest. The game is the final match, before the team takes a three-week break for exams and the holidays.
