For the first time this season, a Brown University player was honored with a weekly award. Senior goaltender, Brian Eklund (Braintree, MA) was named the ECAC Goaltender of the Week after stopping 27 of 29 shots in Brown's season-opening 4-2 victory over #11 Harvard on November 3.
This marks the third time in his career and the second time in a row that Eklund has earned this honor. After last year's season-ending 3-3 tie with Yale, Eklund was named ECAC Goalie of the Week for the final week of the season when he stopped a career-high 48-51 shots.
The win was the first time since 1999 that Brown had beaten Harvard and the first time since 1998 that the Bears had opened the season with a victory.
A 2000 draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Eklund is second in the ECAC with a 2.00 goals against average and with a .933 save percentage.
