The Brown men's ice hockey team held its annual season-ending banquet on Thursday, April 12, and four different individuals were honored with team awards. The banquet, sponsored by the Brown Hockey Association, was held at Ledgemont Country Club in Seekonk, MA.
The Class of 1936 Hockey Trophy, Brown's MVP for the 2006-2007 season, was awarded to junior Sean Hurley (Rutland, VT). A Second Team All-ECACHL and First Team All-Ivy selection, Hurley excelled for the Bears at both ends of the ice and was consistently one of Brown's best defensemen. He ranked near the top of the League in several scoring categories, including power-play points, 12th with 16 (7g, 9a), short-handed points, fourth with three (1g, 2a), and defensemen scoring, fourth with 24 points (10g, 14a). In ECACHL games only, Hurley was second in defensemen scoring with 18 points (8g, 10a), just four fewer than the League leader. With one season left to play, Hurley has already etched his name in the Brown record books in several scoring categories among defensemen. His 10 goals this season ranks ninth all-time at Brown for goals scored in a season by a defenseman, while his 19 career goals ranks eighth all-time at Brown for goals scored in a career by a defenseman. He will likely enter both the career assists by a defenseman and career points by a defenseman as he currently has 41 assists, two shy of 10th all-time, and 60 career points, five shy of 10th all-time.
Senior captain Sean Dersch (Edmonton, ALB) was awarded both the Charles A. Robinson, Jr. Memorial Trophy for Academic Excellence and the Patrick S. Jones Memorial Award (Coaches' Award). The Robinson Trophy is awarded annually to the letterman who has attained the highest degree of academic excellence over the first seven semesters, while the Jones Award is given to that member of the team who best represented the team throughout the season by his commitment, attitude, and leadership. Dersch, who was an Assistant Captain in 2005-2006 and the captain this past season, played in 117 consecutive games before a knee injury forced him to miss the first games of his career from February 2-16th. Well on his way to breaking Brown's all-time games played record, Dersch finished his career with 123 games, which is second all-time. Dersch, who was named Academic All-Ivy in 2007 and was a three-time selection to the ECACHL All-Academic Team, will earn his degree in Neuroscience this May.
Senior assistant captain Antonin Roux (Danville, QUE) was this year's recipient of the Charles A. Lanigan Memorial Trophy (BHA Award), given the player who best represents the hockey program both on and off the ice. Roux finished this season with 16 points (4g, 12a) and a team-high "+13" rating. A three-time selection to the ECACHL All-Academic Squad, Roux played in nearly every game during his career, finishing with 47 points (14g, 33a) in 113 games.
Freshman goalie Dan Rosen (Syosset, NY) was selected as the Kevin R. Pope Memorial Trophy winner, given to the first year player who, in the eyes of his teammates, contributed most to the success of the team. A Second Team All-Ivy selection, Rosen finished the year with a .920 save percentage, fifth all-time at Brown, and a 2.74 goals against average, sixth all-time at Brown. A two-time ECACHL Goalie of the Week and two-time ECACHL Rookie of the Week, Rosen led the nation for eight straight weeks in both GAA and save percentage, earning National Rookie of the Month honors for the month of December.
