March 31, 2003

Brown University senior Paul Esdale (Edmonton, ALB), who earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy recognition for the second straight year, made his professional hockey debut on March 30 with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, Anaheim's AHL (American Hockey League) affiliate. Esdale will remain with the team for the remainder of their schedule, five games, which concludes on Sunday, April 6.

One of Brown's top scorers since his freshman year, Esdale led all defensemen in scoring since his sophomore season. In 119 career games, Esdale finished his career with the Bears with 67 points on 25 goals and 42 assists. This season, the blueliner finished third on the team with 26 points (9g, 17a), fifth in the ECAC among defensemen, including three power-play goals and two game-winners.

The Bears finished their first winning season since 1995 with a 16-14-5 record, while earning a trip to the ECAC Championship Tournament for the first time since 1994.
