Bears Set for ECACHL First Round Series with Princeton

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown men's ice hockey team, which finished 11th in the ECAC Hockey League, is set to begin the playoffs this weekend. The Bears, who posted a 10-13-6 mark in the regular season, will travel to Princeton, NJ to take on the Tigers of Princeton in a best-of-three series beginning Friday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m. The two teams will meet again for game two on Saturday, March 3 at 7:00 p.m. and if necessary Sunday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m. The winner will advance to the ECACHL Quarterfinals Brown will travel to either Clarkson or St. Lawrence (Princeton would face either Dartmouth or Cornell).

Brown and Princeton played a close series during the regular season, with the Tigers edging the Bears, 3-2, in overtime in Princeton, before playing to a 1-1 draw in Providence. The two games marked the third and fourth times in a row that Brown and Princeton have gone to overtime after tying twice during the 2005-2006 season.

Brown leads the all-time series with Princeton by a 77-52-8 margin, including a 5-4-0 mark in post-season play. This March will mark the first time the two teams will meet in the playoffs in Princeton, as all nine of the previous playoff games have been played in Providence. Princeton advanced in the 1995 playoffs, defeating Brown two games to one. The following year, Brown won a single game, 4-3, to advance to the next round. In 1998, Princeton again advanced, defeating the Bears two games to one. The last time Brown and Princeton met in the playoffs, the Bears swept the Tigers to move onto the Quarterfinals where they defeated Yale in three games, advancing to the ECACHL Final Four.
