For the third time this season, and the second week in a row, Brown University sophomore Yann Danis (Lafontaine, QUE) was honored with an ECAC weekly award. He was named the ECAC Goalie of the Week for the week ending 2/17, earning the honor for the second straight week.
Danis was recognized after leading Brown to its second consecutive ECAC weekend sweep. He stopped all 48 shots in two games, as Brown posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 1929-1930. He stopped 23 shots in Friday's 2-0 win over St. Lawrence, and 25 the next night in a 2-0 blanking of Clarkson.
With the win in Potsdam, the Bears ended a 26-game (21-0-5) winless streak against Clarkson, while earning their first victory over the Golden Knights since the 1992 season. The Bears earned their first ever sweep of the two North Country teams on the road, and just their second over the two programs, the other sweep coming in Providence in 1980.
With three shutouts this season, Danis has tied the Brown record for shutouts in a season and needs just one more to tie the record for career shutouts. Danis improved his goals against average to 1.70, 3rd in the nation and 2nd in the ECAC, and his league-leading save percentage to .943, 2nd in the nation.
The Bears, currently in 7th place in the ECAC standings resume action next weekend when they host 8th place Union and 6th place RPI in a pair of crucial ECAC games, as Brown races for a home-ice slot in the ECAC playoffs. Both games start at 7:00 p.m. in Bruno's final two regular season games at Meehan Auditorium.
