For the fifth time this season and the second time in less than a month, a Brown University men's ice hockey player was honored with a weekly ECAC award. Sophomore Yann Danis (Lafontaine, QUE) was named the ECAC Goalie of the Week for the week ending 2/10.
A goalie, it is the third time in his career and the second time this season, that he has earned an ECAC weekly honor, the first being a Rookie of the Week selection last season. With this selection, he has also earned all three of the honors, after being named the ECAC Player of the Week for stopping 53 of 54 shots in two games, including a 4-1 win over then #2 St. Cloud State.
Danis was recognized this time after leading Brown to its first ECAC weekend sweep, stopping 63 of 66 shots in two games. He made 31 saves against Dartmouth, followed by a 32-save effort the next night against Vermont. He had a scoreless streak of 92:43 in the two games, including stopping 41 shots straight before giving up the first Vermont goal midway through the second period.
Danis improved his goals against average to 1.92, 3rd in the ECAC and 7th in the nation, and his league-leading save percentage to .935, 6th in the nation.
The Bears, currently in a tie for 8th place in the ECAC with St. Lawrence, resume action next weekend when they travel to St. Lawrence and Clarkson for a pair of crucial ECAC games.
