Brown University senior Hobey Baker candidate Yann Danis (Saint Jerome, Quebec) was honored as the ECAC Goaltender of the Week (1/26), helping to lead the Bears to two non-league wins, over Merrimack (6-2) and UMass-Lowell (3-2) with a total of 52 saves in the two games. The honor for Danis marks the 11th time in his career, and the fourth time this season, he has been named ECAC Goalie of the Week.
On Tuesday night against Merriamack, Danis helped the Bears win their first non-league game of the year, while avenging last season's 3-1 loss to the Warriors. He made 25 saves, including 10 in the third period, to earn his 10th win of the season. On Saturday night, Danis made 27 saves on 29 shots in Brown's win over UMass-Lowell, including several saves from point blank range in the final minute of play, while Lowell was skating an extra attacker.
Danis currently leads the nation in save percentage (.949) and shutouts (4), and is second in the nation in goals against average (1.57).
Freshman Brian Ihnacak (Toronto, Ontario), a three-time ECAC Rookie of the Week this season, made his fourth appearance on the ECAC Honor Roll. The Bears' leading scorer with 25 points, he posted three points in the two games with a goal and an assist, on the winning goal, against Merrimack, and an assist against Lowell.
Junior Chris Swon (Mendham, New Jersey) is making his second appearance on the ECAC Honor Roll this year. The fourth-leading scorer on the team with 10 points, he notched three points on the week with a goal against Merrimack, and a goal and an assist, on the winning goal, against Lowell.
After four straight non-league games, the ECAC-leading Bears return home to Meehan Auditorium, where they have a 23-3-6 record in their last 32 games, for a crucial league game against Harvard, on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
