Jan. 26, 2005

PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown University freshman Adam D'Alba (Glencoe, IL) was named USCHO National Defensive Player of the Week (1/25), after helping Brown to a 1-0-1 record in its final two non-conference games of the season.

D'Alba picked up his second shutout of the season with a 25-save performance in a 0-0 tie with #15 UMass-Lowell. On Saturday night, he earned a win in the 19th Annual Mayor's Cup game with a 21-save performance in Brown's 5-1 victory over Providence. It was the Bears' first win in the Mayor's Cup series since the 2000-2001 season, while the 0-0 tie with Lowell was just the second in Brown's history, and the first since 1898, a 0-0 tie with Yale, in Brown's fourth-ever game. He narrowly missed earning his second straight shutout (against Providence) when the Friars scored on the power-play with 18 seconds left in the game.

With the 1-0-1 record on the week, Brown finished its non-conference schedule with a 5-1-1 record, its best record ever in non-league action. D'Alba helped the Bears accomplish this with a 4-0-1 record in non-league games. He currently ranks third in the country with a 1.61 GAA, and leads the nation with a .946 save percentage.

The Bears resume ECACHL action this weekend when they travel to Yale and Princeton for a pair of ECACHL and Ivy League games. The Yale game on Friday is the first of 11 straight ECACHL games as the Bears enter the stretch run of the season and battle for final positioning for the ECACHL Tournament.
