Brown University junior defenseman Sean Hurley (Rutland, VT) was honored by the ECAC Hockey League, earning Player of the Week honors after helping lead Brown to a three-point weekend at Colgate (T, 2-2) and #15 Cornell (W, 5-2). Hurley was dominant on defense, while also chipping in on offense this weekend, leading the Bears to their first point in Hamilton since posting a tie in November, 1995, and their first win in Ithaca since earning a 5-4 victory in February, 1995.
On Friday against the Raiders, Hurley had the primary assist on Brown's tying goal early in the third period, finishing with a "+1" rating in a game that Brown scored just one even-strength goal compared to a short-handed and even-strength goal for Colgate. The next night at Cornell, he tallied two assists to go along with a "+2" rating. With the game tied 1-1 and Brown on the penalty-kill, Hurley intercepted a Cornell pass and recognized a two-on-one develop for Brown. He skated the puck into the zone and fed senior Sean Dersch (Edmonton, ALB) with a perfectly-timed pass as the Bears went up 2-1. After Cornell tied it and then Brown went up 3-2, he had an assist on the Bears' 4th goal with 1:57 left to play.
The Bears, who just concluded a series of seven-straight road games, return home this weekend to host Union and RPI in a pair of ECACHL contests Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
