Goals would probably be in shorter supply if more members of Brown University's men's hockey team played like Gerry Burke, but coach Roger Grillo still thinks the Bears would be wise to follow the lead of their senior assistant captain from Milton.
Burke, a 6-4, 225-pound defenseman, has scored two goals and six points in 16 games this season - modest numbers, but they position him for his most productive season nonetheless: Burke went 2-6-8 as a sophomore; in both his freshman and junior seasons, he had two assists and no goals.
Given the state of Brown's defensive corps this year, Burke is playing exactly as he should play, and the way Grillo wishes more Bears would perform.
