PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown freshman goalie Dan Rosen (Syosset, NY) has been selected as the HCA National Rookie of the Month for December.
Rosen started all five games for the Bears in the month and went 3-1-1 with a 1.56 goals-against average and .953 save percentage. He was named ECACHL Rookie of the Week after stopping 57-of-60 shots in a conference split with St. Lawrence (24 saves, 4-1 win) and Clarkson (33 saves, 2-1 loss). He then earned Goalie of the Week honors by recording a (then) career-high 39 saves in Brown's 3-2 overtime win over Yale. It was his team's first extra-session win since March 5, 2005 after going 0-6-9 in its previous 15 overtime games, including an 0-6-7 record last season.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound rookie who played for Green Bay of the USHL last season, earned his second Rookie of the Week award by blocking 67-of-70 shots as Brown took third place at the Denver Cup. He stopped a career-best 47 shots in a 1-1 tie with UMass Lowell and then thwarted the first three Lowell shooters in the shootout to keep his squad alive. He followed up with 20 saves in a 3-2 win over Mercyhurst as the Bears went to overtime for a third straight game.
Since becoming eligible for league and national statistics reporting on November 18, Rosen has never fallen out of the top spot in the nation in both save percentage (currently at .957) and goals-against average (currently at 1.44).
The Bears will look to push their unbeaten streak to four games this afternoon when they travel to New Haven to face Yale in a 7:00 p.m. Ivy and ECACHL contest.
