Brown University senior Mike Meech (Coquitlam, BC) was named ECACHL Player of the Week (1/3), while freshman Adam D'Alba (Glencoe, IL) was named Rookie of the Week (1/3), after helping Brown to its first holiday tournament title in 20 years with wins over Merrimack (4-1) and Holy Cross (5-2) to capture the Toyota UConn Hockey Classic.
Meech earned a spot on the Toyota UConn Hockey Classic. In two games, he notched 1-4-5 numbers, including 1-3-4 totals in the Championship game against Holy Cross. On Thursday against Merrimack, Meech assisted the Bears' first goal of the game, as Brown took a 1-0 lead 20 seconds into the second period. The next day, after falling behind 2-0 in the first period, Meech helped bring Brown back into the game, assisting on the game-tying goal, a short-handed tally, and the game-winning goal, a power-play tally. He added an assist on the Bears' next goal, giving Brown a 4-2 lead, and scored the final goal of the game, Brown's only even-strength score of the contest to put the game away. He is currently third on the team with 3-9-12 numbers and leads the team with nine assists.
D'Alba was named MVP of the Toyota UConn Hockey. On Thursday against Merrimack, D'Alba stopped 23 of 24 shots, including all 15 in the second period, en route to a 4-1 victory. The next day against Holy Cross, D'Alba stopped 16 of 18 shots to earn Brown's sixth win in seven games. For the weekend, he stopped 39 of 42 shots and posted a 1.50 GAA and a .929 save %. He currently leads the country in both GAA (1.39) and save percentage (.956).
The Bears return home this weekend to host Cornell and Colgate in a pair of ECACHL games beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Meehan Auditorium.
