PROVIDENCE, RI - Juniors Sam Paolini (Rochester, NY) and Mark McRae (Toronto, ONT) each had a three-point game, in helping to lead Cornell (5-1, 3-1) to a 4-1 victory over Brown (2-3, 2-3) in an ECAC and Ivy League men's ice hockey contest on Saturday evening at Meehan Auditorium.
The Big Red took a 1-0 lead at the 14:34 mark of the first period, however less than two minutes later senior Captain Josh Barker (Swift Current, SASK) scored his first goal of the season to knot the contest at 1-1 with 3:43 remaining in the first. Barker was making his first appearance in the lineup after missing the first four games of the season with an injury.
More than mid-way through the second, sophomore Ryan Vesce (Lloyd Harbor, NY) netted what proved to be the game-winner at 13:35 of the second.
The game remained 2-1 in favor of Cornell almost the rest of the way, but with 4:24 remaining, junior captain Stephen Baby (Winnetka, IL) scored a power play goal and McRae added an empty netter with just over one minute remaining to secure the victory.
For the game, senior Brian Eklund (Braintree, MA) stopped 31 shots between the pipes for the Bears, who continue action Wednesday, November 21, when they travel to Maine for their first non-league contest of the season. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
