PROVIDENCE, RI - Sophomore Jeff Prough (Farmington Hills, MI) scored a power-play goal with 38 seconds left in regulation to lift the Brown men's ice hockey team (1-2-0, 1-2-0) to a 4-3 victory over visiting Clarkson (5-3-1, 1-1-1) in an ECAC Hockey League contest on Friday evening at Meehan Auditorium. With the victory, the Bears have now won three straight games over Clarkson, dating back to November 26, 2004.

The game featured back-and-forth action from the opening whistle, with the Golden Knights taking the first lead of the game. Mike Sullivan gave Clarkson the early lead, just 4:48 into the game, when he slipped the puck past sophomore Adam D'Alba (Glencoe, IL).

Junior Antonin Roux (Danville, QUE) knotted the game at 1-1 less than 10:00 later, when he fired the puck into the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Junior Sean Dersch (Edmonton, ALB) and sophomore Brian McNary (Edmonton, ALB) each earned assists on the goal.

After the Golden Knights took a 2-1 lead before the end of the first, Brown grabbed its first lead of the season with back-to-back power-play goals to open the second period. Junior Brian Ihnacak (Toronto, ONT) scored just 1:33 into the period off assists from McNary and Dersch, netting the Bears' first power-play goal in 22 attempts. Freshman Matt Vokes (Auburn, MA) scored his first career goal on a five-on-three advantage at 13:10, as Brown took a 3-2 lead heading into the second intermission. Ihnacak and Prough each assisted on Vokes' goal.

Clarkson knotted the contest at 3-3 at 6:54 of the third when Shea Guthrie beat D'Alba on a one-on-one. The Golden Knights had back-to-back power-play chances late in the game, but the Brown penalty-kill, which finished 7-7 on the night, prevented Clarkson from netting the go-ahead goal.

With exactly 1:00 remaining in the game, the Golden Knights took a penalty of their own, setting up Prough's game-winner. Vokes and Ihnacak each earned assists on the goal, as Brown had five players notch more than one point on the night.

D'Alba finished with 16 saves in net for Brown, while David Leggio recorded 23 saves for Clarkson. The Bears will look to record the weekend sweep tomorrow evening when they host #16 St. Lawrence in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
