Saunders Has Four Point Game To Lead Men's Icers To a 5-1 Victory Over Vermont
Nov. 10, 2001
BURLINGTON, VT - Sophomore Adam Saunders (Moose Jaw, SASK) tallied two goals and added two assists, while sophomore Brent Robinson (Pointe Claire, QUE) and junior Paul Esdale (Edmonton, ALB) each had a three-point game to lead Brown (2-1-0, 2-1-0) to a 5-1 victory over Vermont (1-4-0, 1-1-0) on Saturday evening.
After nearly an entire period of scoreless action, junior Assistant Captain Tye Korbl (Goffstown, NH) scored his second goal of the season to give Brown a 1-0 lead at 14:29 of the first period. Esdale and junior Keith Kirley (Leverett, MA) each earned an assist on the play, their third and second points in two games, respectively.
The Bears took a 2-0 lead just 2:43 into the second period when Esdale scored his first goal of the season with Brown on the man-advantage. Saunders and sophomore Scott Ford (Fort St. John, BC) both earned assists on the play. The assist was Saunders' second point in as many games as he scored a goal and added an assist for the Bears last night at Dartmouth.
The Catamounts got on the board just 39 seconds into the third period when Brady Leisenring (Stowe, VT) scored his third goal of the season from directly in front of the net.
However, less than five minutes later, the sophomore line of Saunders, Robinson and Shane Mudryk (Leduc, ALB) combined for Brown's third goal of the night, giving the Bears a 3-1 lead with 14:59 left to play. Mudryk collected the puck from Robinson, who tallied his third point in two games, and back-handed it past Vermont's Shawn Conschafter (Buffalo, NY) for his first goal of the season. Robinson and freshman Gerry Burke (Milton, MA) combined on a play just 2:30 later to get Saunders the puck, who gave Brown a 4-1 lead with his second goal in as many games.
Saunders tallied his second goal of the night and second power-play goal in as many games with 9:03 remaining, giving Brown a 5-1 lead. Esdale and Robinson earned assists on the play.
For the game, senior Brian Eklund (Braintree, MA) stopped shots between the pipes for Brown, who continues action next Friday, November 16, when they host Colgate in a 7:00 p.m. contest. The game is Brown's 2001-2002 home opener.
