Brown Wins Second Straight With 5-0 Shutout Over Vermont
Nov. 8, 2002
PROVIDENCE, RI - Senior Jason Wilson (LaSalle, ONT) scored two goals for the Bears, while junior Yann Danis (Saint-Jerome, QUE) posted 29 saves in picking up his fifth career shutout as Brown (2-0-0, 2-0-0) blanked Vermont (2-3-2, 0-1-0), 5-0, and picked up their second consecutive shutout. With his fifth career shutout, Danis broke the Brown career shutout record, after tying it last weekend against Harvard.
Brown took a 1-0 lead just 1:27 into the game when sophomore Les Haggett (Norwood, NY) and senior Keith Kirley (Leverett, MA) connected with junior Vince Macri (Durham, NH) on the power-play. Macri fired the puck into the net off the near post from the right point, scoring what would prove to be the game-winner.
The Bears continued their strong play and increased their lead to 2-0 as Wilson netted his first goal at 11:31 of the first. Senior Tye Korbl (Barnstable, MA) and sophomore Mike Meech (Coquitlam, BC) combined to get Wilson the puck and the senior lifted the puck over the right shoulder of Vermont's Shawn Conschafter.
After a scoreless second period, senior Paul Esdale (Edmonton, ALB) increased Brown's lead to 4-0 at 6:32 of the third and Wilson added the fifth and final goal at 12:08. Danis stopped all 29 shots he faced in 60 minutes of action, while Conschafter made 21 saves in 52:08 and Travis Russell stopped two shots in 7:52 minutes.
Brown continues action tomorrow when the Bears host Dartmouth, who dropped a 5-2 decision to Harvard tonight, at 7:00 p.m. at Meehan.
