HANOVER, NH - The Brown men's ice hockey team (1-1-0, 1-1-0) dropped 3-1 decision to Dartmouth (2-0-0, 1-0-0) at Dartmouth's Thompson Arena on Friday evening.
The Big Green grabbed a 1-0 lead at 8:23 of the first period when Lee Stempniak took the puck in on senior Yann Danis (Saint Jerome, QUE) by himself and went top-shelf on Danis' stick-side for the first score of the game.
The Bears started the second period with back-to-back penalties, taking a too many men on the ice less than two minutes into the period and a Scott Ford (Ft. St. John, BC) hooking penalty less than four minutes in. Stempniak added his second of the night with 55 seconds left in the Ford penalty to give Dartmouth a 2-0 lead at 4:55 of the second period.
With Brown on a power-play, Ford got the Bears on the board with his first goal of the year at 6:57 of the second period, with just 15 seconds remaining in the power-play. He took na strong slap shot from the left point and the puck squirted trough the legs of a collapsed Dan Yacey. With just under four minutes remaining in the game, Dartmouth was called for consecutive penalties, resulting in a Brown 5x3 opportunity for 44 seconds. The Bears were unable to capitalize on the 5x3 and Bruno couldn't do anything with the 1:16 power-play due to strong penalty-killing by the Big Green.
