PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown University men's ice hockey team defeated Quebec, Trois-Rivieres on Sunday, October 26, 4-0, in an exhibition contest at Meehan Auditorium. The Bears had a balanced attack with four different members of the team scoring a goal and eight different players notching at least one point in their final tune-up before the 2003-2004 season opener.
Brown got on the board with just 1:50 remaining in the first period when senior Brent Robinson (Pointe Clarie, QUE) went top shelf with what would prove to be the game-winning goal. Junior Chris Swon (Mendham, NJ) and freshman Dylan Row (Winnipeg, MAN) each earned an assist on the goal.
Freshman Antonin Roux (Danville, QUE) increased Brown's lead to 2-0, while Row earned his second assist of the game, just 4:17 into the second period. Freshman Steve Sigaty (Edmonton, ALB) gave the Bears a 3-0 lead at 7:03 of the second period. Juniors Mike Meech (Coquitlam, BC) and Gerry Burke (Milton, MA) each earned assists on the goal.
Swon sealed the win for Bruno with a goal at 16:59 of the third period for the final 4-0 score. Burke and sophomore Cory Caouette (Spruce Grove, ALB) were each credited with assists on the goal.
All three of Brown's goaltenders saw time in net, combining for the shutout with a total of 21 saves. Senior Yann Danis (Saint Jerome, QUE) made eight saves in the first period, sophomore Kevin Kliman (Toronto, ONT) made three in the second, and junior Scott Rowan (Vernon, BC) made 10 saves in the third.
The Bears open the 2003-2004 season next Saturday, November 1, in an ECAC and Ivy League contest at Harvard at 7:00 p.m.
