Oct. 26, 2001

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown Men's Ice Hockey team tallied three unanswered goals in the second period en route to a 5-0 blanking of visiting St. Francis Xavier in an exhibition contest.

After a scoreless first period, Brown senior J-F Labarre tallied his first of two goals just 2:28 into the second stanza when he collected a pass from sophomore Brent Robinson, who was behind the net, and first it past David Haun from between the two circles. Less than 10 minutes later and with Brown on the power play, junior Paul Esdale found sophomore Vince Macri in the upper right corner, who fired a slapshot in for a 2-0 Brown lead. Robinson added a third goal six minutes later as Brown headed into the final period with a 3-0 lead.

The third period was more of the same as the Bears scored two quick goals to secure the victory. Freshman Chris Davidson increased the lead to 4-0 at 2:45 of the third and Labarre tallied his second at 5:33 for the final tally.

In net for Brown, senior Brian Eklund totaled 19 saves in two periods of work, and sophomore Yann Danis completed the shut out with eight saves in the third period.

The Bears open the 2001-2002 season on Saturday, November 3, when they travel to Harvard for a 7:00 p.m. game.
