The Brown University men's ice hockey team played its annual Brown vs. White scrimmage on Saturday afternoon, with the White team coming out on top, 5-2. Players on the White team included seniors Mike Meech, Les Haggett, Chris Swon, and Rob Kapuscinski, juniors Adam Tichauer, Dami Amurawaiye, Cory Caouette, and Pete LeCain, and freshmen Jeff Prough, Sean Hurley, and Brian McNary. Goalies senior Scott Rowan and freshman Adam D'Alba split time in net for the White team.
The White team took a 1-0 lead with 21:37 remaining in the first of two 25:00 halves. Caouette scored the goal, while McNary and Swon earned assists on the tally, which beat junior Kevin Kliman. The White team increased its lead to 2-0 with a short-handed goal scored with 5:51 left in the first half. Haggett won the puck in the corner and centered the puck to Meech, who was in the slot, beating D'Alba, who also played for the Brown team.
After the break, the Brown team came to within one when sophomores Antonin Roux and Sean Dersch combined to get Brian Ihnacak the puck. Ihnacak beat D'Alba, now playing for White, with 21:51 left in the scrimmage.
The White team regained the two-goal advantage when Tichauer assisted an Amurawaiye power-play goal against Kliman with 13:40 remaining. Again, the Brown team came to within one, when freshman Chris Poli netted a power-play goal past Rowan, the only goal he allowed in the scrimmage, with 10:35 on the clock. He was assisted by Ihnacak and junior Rugo Santini.
Kapuscinski scored an unassisted tally for the White team with 1:54 remaining and after Kliman was pulled for the empty net, Prough added an empty-netter for the 5-2 final.
Players on the Brown team included senior Gerry Burke, juniors Joe Bauer, Jarrett Robertson, and Santini, sophomores Dylan Row, Ihnacak, Roux, and Dersch, and freshman Paul Baier, Seth Seidman, and Poli. Goalies Kliman and D'Alba split time in net for the Brown team.
In net for the White team, Rowan alllowed one goal, while stopping 11 shots in the first half and nine in 12:42 of the second half. D'Alba played 12:18 in the second half for the White team and made four saves, while allowing one goal. In net for the Brown team, Kliman played 13:10 in the first half, making two saves, while D'Alba played the other 11:50 in the first half, making five saves. Each allowed one goal in the first half. Kliman played the entire 24:36 in the second half and made 10 saves, while allowing two goals.
The Bears continue practicing for another week before welcoming the Harvard Crimson to Meehan on October 29th for the season-opener for both squads. Face-off is at 7:00 p.m.
