PROVIDENCE, RI- The Brown men's ice hockey team (15-10-5) dropped a 4-2 decision to visiting Harvard (15-14-3), in game one of the best-of-three ECAC Quarterfinal series, Friday evening at Meehan Auditorium.
The two teams fought to an even, scoreless first period, with Harvard narrowly out-shooting Brown, 7-6.
However, the Crimson, who were fresh off a two-game sweep over Vermont in the ECAC First Round, took a 1-0 lead just 24 seconds into the second period on a goal by Noah Welch.
At the midway point of the same period, senior Brent Robinson (Pointe Claire, QUE), who scored both Brown goals, knotted the game at 1-1. After a shot from the blueline by freshman Dylan Row (Winnipeg, MAN) sailed wide and to the right of the net, senior Nick Ringstad (Fairbanks, AK) picked up the puck in the corner and spun behind the net. Ringstad then hit Robinson, who beat Harvard's Dov Grumet-Morris with a low-angle shot.
Harvard re-gained the one-goal lead at 15:24 of the second period on a goal by Tyler Kolarik and Tim Pettit added what would prove to be the game-winner at 3:42 of the third period.
The Crimson grabbed a 4-1 lead at 11:57 of the third, but Robinson added his second of the night with 10 seconds remaining in the game. Senior Vince Macri (Durham, NH) and junior Les Haggett (Norwood, NY) each earned assists on the goal, Robinson's 99th career point.
For the game, senior Yann Danis (Saint Jerome, QUE) stopped 23 shots in net. Brown and Harvard will meet again in game two of the ECAC Quarterfinals tommorrow night at 7:00 p.m. at Meehan Auditorium.
