PROVIDENCE, RI - The Bears (14-11-5, 10-8-4) scored two goals in a span of 36 seconds to hand visiting Princeton (3-26-2, 2-18-2) a 3-1 loss in game two of the ECAC First Round best-of-three series Saturday evening at Meehan Auditorium. With the win, head coach Roger Grillo claimed his first ECAC playoff series, while the Bears will play at Yale next weekend in a best-of-three Quarterfinal series.
The two teams played two scoreless periods of hockey for the second night in a row, but Brown broke open the game when senior Keith Kirley (Leverett, MA) scored his fourth goal of the season at 9:26 of the third. Juniors Pascal Denis (Magog, QUE) and Shane Mudryk (Leduc, ALB) each earned assists on the goal.
A scuffle broke out at the 10-minute mark, resulting in a five-minute major to Princeton's Trevor Beaney, who charged Brown's Yann Danis (Saint-Jerome, QUE). The Tigers got on the board with a short-handed goal by Matt Maglione just eight seconds into that Brown power-play.
However, Mudryk added an insurance goal, on the power-play, for the Bears just 1:33 later with senior Tye Korbl (Barnstable, MA) and Swon earning the assists.
For the game, Danis stopped 36 shots in net, while Leroux made 40 saves for the Tigers. Brown will travel to New Haven for a best-of-three Quarterfinal series with Yale beginning Friday, March 14th, at 7:00 p.m.
