Feb. 26, 2005
HANOVER, NH - Dartmouth (17-10-2, 14-8-0) scored two goals in each period en route to a 6-2 victory over the Brown men's ice hockey team (14-12-3, 9-11-2) in an ECACHL contest on Saturday evening at Thompson Arena.
After going 1-38 on the power-play in their last six games, including not scoring on the man advantage in their past five games, Brown took a 1-0 lead just 3:15 into the game on a power-play goal by senior Mike Meech (Coquitlam, BC). Freshman Sean Hurley (Rutland, VT) sent the puck from the blueline to senior Les Haggett (Norwood, NY) in the corner. Haggett, connected with Meech at the right face-off circle and he lifted the puck past Dan Yacey for his 11th goal of the year. With the assist, Haggett became the first Brown player to score his 100th career point since Ryan Mulhern '96 in 1996.
However, less than four minutes later, at 6:52, Dartmouth tied the contest at 1-1 when Eric Przepiorka tallied on the power-play for the Big Green. With less than three minutes to go in the first period, freshman Jeff Prough's (Farmington Hills, MI) breakaway attempt was saved by Yacey. The Big Green collected the puck deep in their own zone and skate in on the Brown defense, before Nick Johnson lifted the puck past freshman Adam D'Alba (Glencoe, IL) ay 17:57 of the first for a 2-1 Dartmouth lead.
The Big Green scored back-to-back goals just 3:29 apart to take a 4-1 lead before the midway point of the second period.
However, sophomore Brian Ihnacak (Toronto, ONT) brought the Bears to within two goals at 13:29 with his11th goal of the season. Hurley fired a shot from the left point into the slot and Ihnacak deflected it in for Brown's second goal of the contest.
The Bears opened the third period with 1:12 remaining on a power-play and then had another man-advantage just 1:57 into the period, but couldn't generate any offense. Just 37 seconds after the second power-play chance, Dartmouth took a 5-2 lead and then scored its sixth goal of the game, just 1:34 later, at 6:08 of the period. Following the goal, D'Alba was replaced by senior Scott Rowan (Vernon, BC).
