BURLINGTON, VT - Scott Mifsud scored the game-winning goal with just one second left in regulation to lift Vermont (19-11-3, 13-6-2) to a 2-1 victory over the Brown men's ice hockey team (14-11-3, 9-10-2) in an ECACHL contest on Friday evening at Gutterson Fieldhouse. With the loss by St. Lawrence tonight, Brown will finish in sixth place and host the 11th place team next weekend in the ECACHL First Round.

The game was fast-paced up and down action from the opening whistle, with both teams generating quality scoring opportunities. The Bears were the first to break through, though, when at 11:52 of the first period, senior Gerry Burke (Milton, MA), who broke the Brown career games played record, knocked in the rebound of a shot from freshman Brian McNary (Edmonton, ALB). Sophomore Sean Dersch (Edmonton, ALB) skate in with McNary on a two-on-one break. Dersch centered the puck for McNary, who took a low shot on Vermont's Joe Fallon, setting up the puck for Burke on the rebound.

The Catamounts tied the contest at 8:18 of the second period when Chris Myers fired the puck past freshman Adam D'Alba (Glencoe, IL) during a 5x3 opportunity for Vermont.

Both teams had numerous opportunities to score in the final five minutes of the game, and the Catamounts earned the game-winner with just one second left in the game. The win snapped Brown's winning streak over the Catamounts at seven games.

D'Alba finished with 29 saves for the Bears, who continue action tomorrow evening when they close out the regular season against Dartmouth at 7:00 p.m. in Hanover, NH.
