HAMILTON, NY - Sophomore Sean Muncy (Chesterfield, MO) scored his sixth goal of the year to knot the contest at 2-2 at 3:46 of the third period, lifting the Brown men's ice hockey team (7-7-4, 3-6-2) to a 2-2 tie with Colgate (9-12-4, 3-5-3) in an ECACHL game on Friday evening at Starr Rink.
Brown dominated the first period of play, but it was the Raiders that grabbed a 1-0 lead midway through the first period. With Brown skating on its second power-play of the night, Colgate's Ben Camper scored on a short-handed bid with 36 seconds remaining on the Bears' man-advantage.
Freshman Aaron Volpatti (Revelstoke, BC) tied the game at 17:12 of the second period when he scored his first career goal with the Bears' on their seventh power-play of the night. Junior Paul Baier's (North Kingstown, RI) shot form the blueline was saved, but Volpatti pounced on the rebound and fired it into the back of the net to knot the game at 1-1.
However, Colgate regained its lead with just 12 seconds left in the period, when Jesse Winchester scored on a low-angle shot that deflected into the net off freshman goalie Dan Rosen's (Syosset, NY) shin-pad.
Muncy tied the game at 2-2 3:46 into the third when he deflected a shot from junior Sean Hurley (Rutland, VT) past Mark Dekanich, glove side.
Muncy's goal would force overtime, Brown's second straight overtime contest, as neither team could produce the game-winner in regulation, despite several close chances at both ends of the ice.
Colgate dominated the overtime, outshooting Brown 4-1 during the five-minute period, but Rosen stopped all four shots as the two teams played to a tie for the second time this season. The tie also marks Brown's first point in Hamilton since posting a 4-4 tie in November, 1995.
Rosen finished with 25 saves, while Mark Dekanich recorded 37 saves for Colgate. Brown will play its seventh straight road game tomorrow evening when it travels to Ithaca, NY to face Cornell in an Ivy and ECACHL contest at 7:00 p.m.
