PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown men's ice hockey team (9-4-4) battled The University of Connecticut (5-9-5) to a 1-1 tie in a non-conference game Friday evening at Meehan Auditorium.
The Bears grabbed a 1-0 lead with under seven minutes left in the first period and neither team found the back of the net until just over six minutes into the third period when the Huskies knotted the game at 1-1 just four seconds after a UConn power-play had expired.
At 13:23 of the first period, sophomore Joe Bauer (Apple Valley, MN) scored his first career goal from the left face-off circle. Classmates Cory Caouette (Spruce Grove, ALB) and Rugo Santini (Winchester, MA) each earned assists on the goal.
UConn tied the game at 1-1 at 6:03 of the third period when B.J. Crum lifted the puck into the top left corner of the net for the Huskies' first goal against Brown in four meetings.
Neither team found the back of the net during the remainder of the third period or in a 5:00 overtime and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Junior goalie Scott Rowan (Vernon, BC) made 25 saves, in his second career start. The Bears return to action tomorrow night when they travel to The University of New Hampshire, which is ranked #9 in the country, for a 7:00 p.m. game. Saturday, January 9th and 10th.
