New Haven, CT - Sophomore Brian McNary (Edmonton, ALB) scored the game-tying goal to lift the Brown men's ice hockey team (3-10-4, 2-6-2) to a 3-3 tie with Yale (5-9-2, 4-6-1) in an ECAC Hockey League and Ivy contest on Saturday afternoon at Ingalls Rink. The tie stretches Brown's unbeaten streak to three games as Brown is 1-0-2 in its past three contests.

For the ninth time this season, the Bears found themselves trailing 1-0 within the first 5:00 of the game. Yale's David Meckler fired a shot from the bottom of the left face-off circle that beat sophomore Adam D'Alba (Glencoe, IL) stick-side just 1:32 into the contest.

However, Brown battled back to tie the game at 1-1 when junior Sean Dersch (Edmonton, ALB) scored his third goal of the season with 37 seconds left on a power-play opportunity for the Bears. Junior Brian Ihnacak (Toronto, ONT) made a great play to control the puck to the right of the net off a pass from junior Antonin Roux (Danville, QUE). Ihnacak skated across the goal-mouth and fired a shot on Alec Richards that was saved. However, the rebound bounced out to Dersch in the slot and he one-timed it into the net at 5:23 to tie the game at 1-1.

The Bulldogs scored two goals in the second period, one at 3:14 with each team skating four players, and the other at 16:28, which gave Yale a 3-2 lead heading into the second intermission. Both goals were scored on two-on-one breaks, with Zappala's goal coming off a centering pass from the left wing, and LeClerc's goal coming off a centering pass from the right wing.

Sandwiched in between the two goals was freshman Eric Slais' (Fenton, MO) first career goal. Freshman Ryan Garbutt (Winnipeg, MAN) broke up a Yale clearing attempt in neutral ice and skated into the offensive zone, before back-handing a pass to Slais in the slot. Slais beat his defender and fired the puck through Richards' five-hole to tie the game at 2-2 at the 6:28 mark.

Brown battled back to tie the game again just 1:13 into the third period off the stick of McNary. McNary took a shot from the right face-off circle that was blocked, but the puck squirted out to Dersch in the right corner. McNary skated into the slot and Dersch hit him with the puck before McNary went top-shelf, scoring over the 6-4 Richards' right shoulder.

McNary's goal would prove to be the game-tying goal and send the game into overtime, the Bears' fourth overtime contest in the past five games. In those overtime games, Brown is 0-1-3.

D'Alba finished with 23 saves in net for Brown. The Bears return to action on Friday, January 20th, when they host Rensselaer in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
