Men's Icers Win Second Straight, 6-4 Over Yale, As Robinson Notches Four Points

Jan. 11, 2003

PROVIDENCE, RI - The men's ice hockey team (7-6-2, 7-5-1) used a three-goal second-period to erase a two-goal deficit and defeat Yale (8-8-0, 7-5-0), 6-4, in an ECAC and Ivy League men's ice hockey contest Saturday evening at Meehan Auditorium.

Ryan Steeves and Jeff Hristovski each scored goals for the just 58 seconds apart in the 10th minute of the opening period, giving Yale a 2-0 lead at 9:54 of the first stanza.

However, Brown struck back in a simiar fashion, as senior Jason Wilson (LaSalle, ONT) and sophomore leading scorer Les Haggett (Norwood, NY) scored just 46 seconds apart in the 17th minute as the Bears knotted the contest at 2-2. Defensemen Paul Esdale (Edmonton, ALB) and Scott Ford (Fort St. John, BC) each assisted on Wilson's goal, while junior Brent Robinson (Pointe Claire, QUE) and senior Keith Kirley (Leverett, MA) assisted on Haggett's goal.

The Bulldogs finished the scoring for the first period, netting a power-play goal with 42 seconds remaining in the period.

Brown came out of the gates flying in the second period and after Yale tallied its fourth goal of the game, the Bears responded just 28 seconds later at 4:32 of the second stanza. Haggett notched his second of the game with Robinson and Kirley each assisting as Brown came to within one.

Robinson tied the game and then gave Bruno a 5-4 lead with back-to-back power-play goals coming at the 7:00 mark and at 16:33. His second goal was scored after the Bears had successfully killed off three penalties, including two five-on-three chances for Yale. Ford and Kirley assisted on the first, while defensemen Gerry Burke (Milton, MA) and Vince Macri (Durham, NH) notched assists on the second.

Senior Chris Legg (London, ONT) added an unassisted goal on a breakaway just 24 seconds into the final period as the Bears moved into second-place in the ECAC (15 points) with the 6-4 win.

For the game, junior Yann Danis (Saint-Jerome, QUE) stopped 28 shots. Brown continues action next Saturday when the Bears will host Holy Cross in a 7:00 p.m. non-league contest at Meehan Auditorium as the next four Brown games are out of the ECAC.
