PROVIDENCE, RI - Junior Adam Saunders (Moose Jaw, SASK) notched his first career hat trick and became the first player to score three goals in a game since Jon Zielinski '00 (2/3/99), while junior Yann Danis (5-6-2, 5-5-1) stopped 21 shots en route to his third shutout of the season, as Brown (6-6-2, 6-5-1) defeated Princeton (2-16-0, 1-10-0), 4-0.
After almost nearly an entire period of scoreless action, which featured 23 total shots by the Bears, Brown broke the scoreless game at 17:10 of the opening period on a five-on-three power-play goal by sophomore leading scorer Les Haggett (Norwood, NY). Senior Paul Esdale (Edmonton, ALB) and junior Brent Robinson (Pointe Claire, QUE) each assisted on the goal, Haggett's third of the season, as the Bears scored after Princeton captain George Parros had been ejected with a five-minute hitting from behind and a game misconduct.
Brown extended its lead to 2-0 at 14:03 of the second period, as Saunders tallied his first of the game, just three seconds after a Brown power-play had ended. Junior Shane Mudryk (Leduc, ALB) and sophomore Gerry Burke (Milton, MA) each assisted on the goal.
Saunders notched his second goal on the power-play at 11:06 of the third period with Mudryk and senior Tye Korbl (Barnstable, MA) assisting. Korbl and Robinson assisted on Saunders' third goal, an empty-netter as he completed the hat trick.
Brown continues action tomorrow at Meehan Auditorium with a crucial ECAC and Ivy League game against Yale at 7:00 p.m. The Bulldogs, who are currently in a tie for second with 14 points and dropped a 6-2 decision at Harvard tonight, are just one point ahead of the Bears.
