PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown men's ice hockey team (7-6-2, 4-5-2) dropped its second straight game, falling to #13 Colgate (15-5-0, 7-1-0), 3-1, in an ECACHL contest on Saturday evening at Meehan Auditorium.
Colgate took a 1-0 lead just 3:14 into the contest when Ryan Smyth redirected a pass from Mark Fulton past freshman Adam D'Alba (Glencoe, IL) with just two seconds remaining on a power-play.
However, the Bears knotted the game at 1-1 when sophomore Antonin Roux (Danville, QUE) scored at 7:45 of the first, knocking in the rebound of an Adam Tichauer (Toronto, ONT) shot. Sophomore Sean Dersch (Edmonton, ALB) also earned an assist on the goal.
After a scoreless second period, which featured strong penalty-killing by both teams, Tony Masotto scored the eventual winner for the Raiders on the power-play at 7:23 of the third period. Masotto added his second of the game, also on the power-play, at 14:19 of the period, putting the contest out of reach.
The Bears pulled D'Alba with 1:30 left to play, but could get no closer before the final whistle.
In net for Brown, D'Alba stopped 29 shots in net, while Steve Silverthorn made 17 saves for Colgate. The Bears take a break from ECACHL action for four three straight non-league games here at Meehan Auditorium, beginning with Wednesday's game against American International.
