Brown and Rensselaer Skate to 2-2 Tie

Jan. 4, 2002

TROY, NY - Sophomore Shane Mudryk (Leduc, ALB) tallied the game-tying goal with just 4:43 left in regulation and sophomore Yann Danis (Lafontaine, QUE) made a season-high 33 saves as Rensselaer (7-5-2, 2-2-2) and Brown (4-6-2, 3-4-2) skated to a 2-2 stalemate on Friday evening at RPI's Houston Field House.

Just 1:03 into the contest, RPI took a 1-0 lead when freshman Matt McNeely (Almonte, ONT) fired a shot from the right face-off circle and past Danis. Sophomore Conrad B arnes (Greenwood Village, CO) also earned an assist on the goal.

Brown got on the board just 8:16 later when sophomore Pascal Denis (Magog, QUE), who was in his first game back from an injury, tipped in the rebound of a freshman Mike Meech (Coquitlam, BC) wraparound attempt. Junior Jason Wilson (LaSalle, ONT) also earned an assist on the play, while Meech's assist was his second point in as many games.

With Brown's Les Haggett (Norwood, NY) playing without a stick for nearly a minute, RPI took a 2-1 lead just 3:33 into the second period when Matt Murley (Troy, NY), who was back in his first game after recovering from Mono, slipped the puck past Danis.

After nearly a period of scoreless action, the Bears knotted the game on their fourth power play opportunity of the night. Junior Paul Esdale (Edmonton, ALB) brought the puck up the right of the ice and found Mudryk with a centering pass. Mudryk fired the puck in from directly in from of the net, tying the game with just 4:43 remaining and sending it into overtime. Sophomore Brent Robinson (Pointe Claire, QUE) also earned an assist on the play for his second point in as many games.

Neither team was able to score in the extra period, and the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Danis finished with 33 saves for the Bears, who continue action on Saturday, when they face Union in the tail end of the Capital District swing. RPI hosts Harvard at home. Both games begin at 7:00 p.m.
