Former Bishop Hendricken High School and University of Connecticut standout Chris Potter is in his fifth season on the Brown men's ice hockey staff. After spending his first two seasons with the Bears as the second assistant, Potter moved into the top assistant position prior to 2000-2001 after the resignation of Rob Abel, who served as the top assistant to Grilo for the past three seasons.
Before coming to Brown, Potter spent two seasons as the top assistant at the University of Connecticut, where he was a four-year letterwinner from 1989-93 at defense. An All-American and captain for the Huskies, he was a two-time ECAC All-Star first team selection, and also tabbed All-New England. He continues to stand atop Connecticut's career list for games played with 108. He can also be found among the Huskies' all-time leaders in assists and total points.
Before returning to his alma mater as coach, Potter spent three years playing professionally in the East Coast Hockey League for the Roanoke Express, and attended training camp with the San Jose Sharks as a free agent in 1993.
His coaching resume includes stints as the associate coach and evaluator for the USA Hockey Region 16 & 17 camps in Fort Bragg, N.C. His duties included selecting the players that would attend national camps in St. Cloud, Minn. and Lake Placid, N.Y. Potter also has served as the Director of the Mid-Atlantic Hockey Camps in Washington, D.C.
In addition, he has been a head coach at Elite Hockey Camps in Andover, Mass. and Connecticut Hockey Skills in West Haven, CT.
Originally from Warwick, R.I., Potter earned his master's degree in Sport Management from Connecticut in May 1998. He and his wife, Lisa, reside in Sharon, MA.
