An instinctive front liner, Tye Korbl is very aggressive, with the fundamentals conducive to success. He has steadily improved each season and will again be a leading scorer for the Bears.
2001-2002: Korbl played in all 31 games for Brown and tripled his scoring totals from the previous year, finishing with 7-10-17 numbers, including 5-9-14 totals in ECAC contests ... Scored two game-winning goals and also finished with a +6 rating, third on the team, as he centered Brown's top line ... Notched the first Brown goal of 2001-2002, when he tied the Harvard game at 1-1 in Brown's 4-2 victory ... Tallied his second point in as many games, with an assist at Dartmouth ... Scored his second goal of the game, his third point in three games, at Vermont ... Tallied his fourth point in five games, assisting on a power-play goal against Cornell, tying the game at 1-1 ... Had a two-point outing in the 3-2 win over St. Lawrence, assisting on the game-tying goal and netting the game-winner with eight seconds left in overtime ... Was honored as the ECAC Player of the Week following that weekend ... Scored his fourth goal of the season against UNH in the Bank One Badger Showdown ... Tallied an assist on a power play goal at Union ... Earned his second and third points in as many games with an assist against Yale and on the game-winning goal in 3-1 victory over Princeton ... Added an assist on a short-handed goal against #2 St. Cloud, his fourth point in as many games ... Scored his fifth goal of the season to give Brown a 2-0 lead at Providence ... 2000-2001: Appeared in 28 of 29 games, missing just one due to an injury ... Tripled his scoring totals from the previous season, finishing the season with 3-3-6 totals ... Assisted on the Bears' first goal of the 2000 season as Brown took a 1-0 lead in the 5-1 victory over Providence for the 15th Annual Mayor's Cup ... Scored his first career goal, the game-winner at Princeton with 2:04 remaining in the game; named the First Star ... Scored second goal in three games to tie the game 1-1 at #4 St. Cloud with 21 seconds remaining in the first period ... Added an assist against Cornell ... Tallied an assist on the lone Brown goal at Dartmouth ... Scored third goal of the season the following weekend against St. Lawrence, tying the game at 2-2.
1999-2000: Played in 27 games ... Finished the season with two assists, both of which were in ECAC contests ... Tallied first collegiate assist on Brown's first goal of the season against Vermont on November 5 ... Also had an assist on Brown's first goal of the game at St. Lawrence on January 14.
Before Brown: Korbl captained three teams his senior year at Deerfield: hockey, baseball and football. A hockey Founders League All-Star as a senior, Korbl also earned the James Smith Award (sportsmanship) and William B. Jaffe Award for athletic achievement from Deerfield. He was a two-time All-New England Class A prep football choice, and both the New England Class A MVP and Deerfield MVP as a senior. The western chapter of the National College Football Hall of Fame honored him with the Frank Boyden Award as the prep school Scholar Athlete of the Year, and he earned Boston Globe All-Scholastic honors in football. Korbl capped his prep career by earning All-Central New England honors as a shortstop for the baseball team.
