A strong defenseman, Gerry Burke provides a physical presence, creating an obstacle for the opposition. He is a playmaker, who can get the puck into the offensive zone, creating scoring opportunities. He has missed just two games during his three seasons with the Bears and will contribute in all areas this year, including the power-play and penalty kill.
2003-2004: Burke played in all 31 games last season, notching two assists, both in ECAC contests ... Finished with a "+3" rating and 32 penalty minutes ... 2002-2003: Burke played in all but one game for the Bears, missing the game at RPI due to a game disqualification ... Finished as the fourth-leading scorer among the defensemen with 2-6-8 numbers, including 2-5-7 totals in ECAC contests ... One of Brown's top defensemen, Burke was also part of the second power-play unit ... Picked up his first point of the season with an assist in season-opening 4-0 win over Harvard ... 2001-2002: Burke gained valuable experience on the blueline, playing in all but one game for the Bears ... Finished the season with two assists ... Finished the season with a team-leading "+10" rating.
Before Brown: Burke competed at Boston College High School for four years (1996-2000), and was a member of the hockey team at Phillips Exeter during 2000-2001. A captain for the Boston College High team in 1999-2000, Burke was named a Catholic Conference All-Star that same year after amassing 5-18 - 23 totals in 25 games. In addition, he was selected to the 1999-2000 Boston Herald Dream Team, while earning Hockey Night in Boston Catholic/Public Defensive Co-MVP honors. In one year at Exeter, Burke scored three goals and added 22 assists for 25 points in 31 games and was named the Hockey Night in Boston Prep/Private Defensive MVP. He was also a member of the baseball team at Exeter.
