Men’s Hockey Edged at Dartmouth, 4-3

HANOVER, N.H. – Conner Wynne (Pomona, N.Y.) pulled the Brown men's hockey team within one goal late in the third, but Dartmouth held off the attack as the Bears fell on the road, 4-3, in Friday night's ECAC contest at Thompson Arena.

Brown moved to 1-2-0 overall and in the ECAC. Dartmouth picked up its first win of the season to move to 1-2-0, 1-1-0.

Sophomores Trey Dodd (St. Louis, Mo.) and Nolan Aibel (Brookville, N.Y.) both scored and added assists, while defenseman Joe Maguire (Dix Hills, N.Y.) had two assists for the multiple-point effort.

Freshman Luke Kania (Chicago, Ill.) made 18 saves in his first career start. Devin Buffalo recorded 24 stops in the win for the Big Green. Brown outshot Dartmouth, 27-22.

Dartmouth opened with a pair of quick goals in the first 6:29 of the contest. After Kevan Kilistoff notched the first tally of the game at 4:44, Corey Kalk backhanded a shot in front for the early two-goal advantage.

Daniel Warpecha gave Dartmouth a three-goal lead with a shorthanded goal just 22 seconds into the second period. Nevertheless, Brown battled right back with two goals within a 31-second span. After Dodd put home a rebound at 1:57, Aibel took advantage of a great feed from Tony Stillwell (Green Bay, Wis.), scoring from the slot for his first career goal to trim the lead to one, 3-2. Dodd and Aibel also earned assists on the respective goals.

Kilistoff put the Big Green back in front by two goals with his second goal of the night at 12:12 as he scored just one second after a power play expired. Brown outshot Dartmouth, 12-10, in the middle period.

Wynne pulled the Bears within one when he scored his first goal of the season at 14:56. Maguire sent a shot from the point and Wynne redirected the puck over the shoulder of Buffalo, trimming the deficit to 4-3. Rookie Alec Mehr (Los Angeles, Calif.) also earned an assist on the play.

Brown pulled Kania for nearly two minutes for the extra skater to close out the game, but the Bears could not even the score down the stretch, as the home side held on for the victory.

Brown will visit No. 3 Harvard tomorrow night at 7 PM. The game will be broadcast on the Ivy League Network and ESPN3.
