Doane’s Overtime Game Winner Sends Men’s Hockey Past Dartmouth, 4-3

HANOVER, N.H. – Senior captain Andrew Doane (Holliston, Mass.) scored his first goal of the season midway through overtime to lift the Brown men's hockey team over Dartmouth, 4-3, in Saturday's ECAC contest at Thompson Arena.

Brown improves to 4-14-1 overall and 3-9-0 in the ECAC, while Dartmouth drops to 7-10-3, 4-7-2 in the conference. Brown outshot Dartmouth, 34-31.

Facing a two-goal deficit after the first period, Brown rallied with three unanswered goals, including the go-ahead tally by Brent Beaudoin (Londonderry, N.H.) early in the third period. After Dartmouth scored the equalizer with 1:33 remaining to send the game into extra time, Doane hit home a rebound at 2:34 in overtime to secure the win.

In addition to Beaudoin, Max Willman (Barnstable, Mass.) and Davey Middleton (Novi, Mich.) registered one goal and one assist apiece. Rookie Gavin Nieto (Yorba Linda, Calif.) stopped 28 shots in the win, while Devin Buffalo made 30 saves on the other end.

Ryan Blankemeier put the Big Green on the board at 6:44 in the first period. Nieto was able to deny on a wraparound attempt, but Blankemeier was there for the rebound in front to make it 1-0.

Crema added a power-play goal late in the period at 17:01 as he tapped home a one-timer from Alex Jasiek for the two-goal advantage at the first intermission. Brown responded with a series of shots in the final few minutes of the period but Buffalo kept the Bears at bay.

Brown roared back with a pair of goals in the second period and outshot the Big Green by a 13-4 margin in the stanza. Middleton scored his second of the season at 4:49 when he intercepted a pass in the offensive end and finished the breakaway to trim the deficit to one goal.

Willman evened the score at 10:51 with his eighth tally of the season. Tommy Marchin (Algonac, Mich.) sent a centering pass from the right circle and Willman buried the one timer in front to make it 2-2. Beaudoin also picked up an assist on the play.

Beaudoin notched the go-ahead goal just 44 seconds into the third period. After Beaudoin won the faceoff in the offensive end, Willman scooped up the puck and charged toward the goal, before Beaudoin gained control and finished for his third career tally.

After Dartmouth pulled Buffalo late in the period following a pair of penalties, Crema scored his second goal of the game at 18:27 on a blast from the left circle, sending the game into overtime.

Doane and Middleton took advantage of numbers with a series of shots midway through overtime, and after Buffalo turned away a pair of bids, Doane pushed in the third attempt for the game winner.
