PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Four different players scored for the Brown men's hockey team, including three on the power play, as the Bears topped Colgate, 4-2, in Saturday's ECAC contest at Meehan Auditorium.
Brown picked up its first win of the season to move to 1-5, while Colgate drops to 2-5-4 overall.
Juniors Charlie Corcoran (New Canaan, Conn.) and Tyler Bird (Andover, Mass.) both had one goal and one assist, while Conner Wynne (Pomona, N.Y.) and Max Willman (Barnstable, Mass.) also scored for the Bears. Sam Lafferty (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) and Max Gottlieb (Old Bridge, N.J.) had two assists apiece.
Tim Ernst (Pickering, Ontario) made 22 saves in the win, allowing a pair of extra-attacker goals. Charlie Finn had 23 stops in the loss.
Brown controlled play in the opening 20 minutes, outshooting the Raiders by a 10-1 margin in the first stanza. Brown drew a pair of penalties in the first half of the period and benefited from some solid offensive zone movement during the power plays, but the Bears came up short on both attempts.
Brown killed its only penalty of the period with four minutes remaining to preserve the even score at the first intermission.
Wynne put the Bears on top at 7:10 in the second period with his first career goal. Senior Andrew Doane (Holliston, Mass.) carried the puck through the neutral zone and set up Wynne in the slot, who blasted a shot past Finn for the one-goal lead.
Corcoran added a power-play goal at 18:18 to give Brown the two-goal advantage heading into the second intermission. Bird kept the play alive and sent a shot off Finn, before Corcoran collected the puck and pushed in the rebound for his third goal of the season.
Brown outshot Colgate, 10-5, in the second period.
Willman scored the team's second power-play goal at 4:11 in the third period, as he tipped in the puck that bounced off the end boards, scoring for the third time in as many games.
Bird added another power-play goal at 7:36 for his first tally of the season to give the home side the four-goal advantage.
Brett Corkey and Jared Cockrell notched a pair of power-play goals at 6-on-3 and 6-on-4, respectively, but it was not enough as the Bears secured the win.
Brown outshot Colgate, 27-24.
The Bears return to action on Friday, Nov. 18 when they Bears visit Clarkson at 7 PM.
